Herbal Medicine

A cornerstone of treatment in TCM is the use of medicines that are to be taken internally in the form of teas, pills, syrups and wines and other liquids. Most people believe that the herbs or plants are specific to china when in fact many of them are not herbs at all but are common substances found all over the world and in every culture. Chinese medicinals are made up of plant components, minerals, chemicals, animal parts and natural byproducts found in nature and are prescribed in a manner that mitigates the harsh or toxic properties of substance that would occur if taken by themselves. The prescription of a formula is based not upon the disease, but the individual diagnosis. Before prescribing any formulas our practitioners discriminate an individuals presentation and thus tailor the formulas to their needs. In TCM words- we treat both the root as well as the branch. The following concept illustrates this methology:
“Yi bing, tong zhi;
Tong bing, yi zhi.”
One disease, different treatments;
Different diseases, one treatment.
